Censorship is Weak as F##k Sat. Dec. 15th in LA

World Industries and Red Bull put this DOPE event together and I had the honor of DJing the opening night.

It was a BLAST! Super fun...

I spun records from 6:30pm - 9:30pm, until we showed a video which ended up leaving me with only 15 or so minutes at the end to close it out. It was truly a night full of good people, good music, free booze, blunts, great art, skateboard history, Rodney Mullen, Clyde Singleton, Johnny Knoxville, and a few other legends I'm forgetting right now.

I'm actually spinning at the space again this Friday, but for an "exclusive" audience. It's not that deep, but it is exclusive. HOWEVER, the art show will be open to the public today thru, I believe Tuesday.

CHECK IT OUT!

Censorship is Weak as F##k is a collaborative retrospective featuring over 40 skateboard graphics designed by Marc McKee and Sean Cliver. The show features work the two have done for World Industries and its subsidiary brands from the formation of the company in the late 1980s to its mid-90s rise to industry dominance. The collection of original skateboards demonstrates, literally in graphic detail, how World Industries set itself apart from its competitors by using a totally uncensored approach in its graphic program, relentlessly featuring one controversial subject after another, covering issues such as religion, pornography, gun control, sex, profanity, racism, drug use and violation of copyright law, all on the bottoms of its skateboards.

worse beat down i have ever seen...

i forgot to write about this..

a couple weeks ago, on the way back from alex's bar in long beach, with my good friend wiley and her homegirl tanya, we rolled up on what turned out to be the worse beat down i have ever seen in person.

about a block away we could see a couple people fighting in the middle of the street. i was slowing down honestly at first just to get a better view of the fight, but this 300lbs mexican dude with a shaved head, a mean goatee, and a black wife beater, was kickin' the shit out of this other mexican dude that was about 100 pounds lighter than him.

after knocking the guy down, he was dropping anvils on this poor guys dome that were drilling dude's head into the asphalt. we were rolling up on the fight pretty quick and it became apparent that we needed to save this guy's life. by the time we got to the fight, the big dude had already stomped on the guys head with his big ass combat boots. this big guy was a beast...scary as shit and was about to stomp on this dudes head a second time when 1, his equally big girlfriend tries to pull him off and 2, i stop the car right in the middle of the street and jump out of the car.

i kinda gave a "YO!", which along with the girlfriend's help stopped the big guy from stomping this dudes head a second time. thing was, i REALLY didn't want to become this guys next target. I was no more than 15 ft from him, had just jumped out of a car in the middle of the road, yelled at dude, and somehow managed to stay out of the "danger zone." That's how in a zone that big dude was.

when i jumped out of the car, i called 911 right away and snuck in telling them the cross-streets, to hurry the fuck up, and that i can't talk.....all between hiding the phone every time i thought gorilla over there was going to look at me. calling 911 was rolling another pair of dice before i even knew the turn out of the first pair i tossed out there.

this other mexican that was friends with the beaten guy was also there and was now in the beasts site. the girlfriend did manage to get through to her boyfriend and talked him into getting out of there. they made it about half a block when the first cop made it there. since the booty and the beast had their back to us walking away, i was pointing right at them while looking the cop right in his eye. he didn't even turn his head!!!

...luckily, another cop rolled up on the two heavyweights!

the cop that pulled up to us asked the girls and me to sit on the curb. i asked him if he wanted me to move my car, but he said no.

the guy that almost lost his life was bleeding from behind his eyes. I was standing directly over him, looking into his eye to see if i could communicate with him, but he was gone.

fast forward to 7-8 minutes later and there are at LEAST 15 cops standing around me, the girls, and now-conscious beaten guy. they NEVER even asked me what happened!! i started telling a cop the story and he STOPPED listening to me half way thru.

i then asked the group as a whole "does anyone want to hear what happened, cuz we wanna get out of here?" (we had all been drinking and even though i was good to drive, i did not want to get breathalized).

....i tell the story, they don't care, we break out. by the way, there was never an ambulance there despite me telling how bad the beating was and the fact that the guy still couldn't do much but drool on himself.

that's the story. i wouldn't have even remember it really if i didn't tell it earlier today.

the other part of the night worth telling is that alex's bar on the first friday of the month, 60's funk night, is LEGIT. the djs spun all vinyl and the music was good. most of it sounded alike, but it was rare funk. my only other complaint was that the crowd was even less diverse. bummer.

Music shit worth noting!!!

DAM FUNK!!! That's the name! This dude spun a set at a "KOOL" party my boys Jackson and Wes threw called Electro Boogie Body Rock.

I rolled in with crew sailing on a cloud of some medicinal good lovin'. Skip the pounds and small talk with the fam and go straight to Dam Funk spinning one of the dopest sets I have EVER HEARD. On some super deep funk grooves. I don't think I recognized more than 2 tracks the WHOLE TIME and he spun for about an hour. The shit was perfectly Spacey with rich bass filled undertones.

Dam Funk is THE TRUTH! I've been using that term a bit lately, but NOT UNJUSTLY.

Other things worth noting is my boy Deric Mahaney's website, www.thismachineco.com/daily/wp/ - A dope site featuring rare funk/soul/jazz 45's. I think EVERY DAY has a new 45 track featured. I will be regularly uploading songs to this as well.

Some of you from Detroit might know about People record shop. Well Brad who I think owns it has a site with a TON of rare funk in shit. www.bradhales.podomatic.com/ Check it out!

living in a digital world - tha saga pt. 2

the saga continues....

i'd say about 3-4 months ago (you know how bad i am with time), OUT OF NOWHERE, all my playlists VANISHED!! I did NOTHING different. I was opening iTunes, it took WAY longer than usual, and when it opened, NO PLAYLISTS!! NONE!! GONE!!

I called Apple and they basically said that somehow my computer rewrote some .xml file that contains all that info. FUCK!!!!!

What can I do, but REDO MY ENTIRE LIBRARY AGAIN!!! I have no choice. I have to have my music organized like that or it's practically useless. AT LEAST, this time I knew to copy that .xml file into a few different places in case it happens again.

Problem is, now I have 35,000 songs!! Yeah, I estimated that at about 200 hours of work. REAL TALK!

So, again, not like I'm not on the fuckin' GRIND like thunder trucks all day, but I need to spend every spare second reorganizing my music.

"Cried two tears in a bucket....fuck it" right? Here we go again. (you like how i progress from no caps, so writing with 'em?)

I guess I'll stop here. Part 3 is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, so stay tuned......

Israeli Salad - The Corner Stone of My Diet

I don't really have a diet, but I try to live healthy as much as possible and the Israeli Salad is THE TRUTH!!!

Here's the recipe, so you can get an idea of what we're workin' with:

4-5 Tomatoes
2 Cucumbers
2 Green Peppers
1 Red Pepper
4-5 Green Onions
Olive Oil
Lemon Juice
Salt & Pepper

That's it! All chopped up. I make it "Cali Style" sometimes and add avocado...BANGIN'!!

Here's how it saves my life. In the morning, I've trained my self to eat something in the first couple hours I'm up. It might just be a smoothie or cereal, but sometimes I'll make some tuna and mix it with the Israeli Salad. On weekends, I usually make breakfast burritos...eggs, potato or rice, habanero sausage (cosco!!), and of course Israeli Salad. BAM...JEWELZ!!

Around lunch I'm HEAVY on the grind and don't have time to be cooking, so frozen foods come into play. All good cuz I gots me some ISREALI SALAD muh-fuckas!! That's right!! That burrito or chicken bake or whatever shit I make is aight as long I got that Isreali Salad on the side.

Dinner is whatever........................................................................................with Isreali Salad on the side!!

It goes with everything and never let's you down. I don't even get the least bit sick of it.

If I go more than 3-4 days without it, it's noticeable. My belly starts poppin' out n shit.

Whatever...ISRAELI SALD IS THE TRUTH!!! DON'T SLEEP!! There's reason why a country to size of New Jersey, surrounded by a BUNCH of countries dozens times bigger that want nothing more out of their existence than to destroy it, has NEVER LOST A WAR. I'd like to suggest it has something to do with THAT SALAD!! ....any takers?

living in a digital world - tha saga pt. 1

This is already going to be at least 5 chapters long and hopefully it's not getting longer....

The Sad, Incredibly Testing Story of The Boy Who Loved Music and his Digital Woes

Let's start in the beginning...

About 3 years ago I'd say, I started organizing all my music into playlists. The idea was to have a playlist for nearly any situation or mood and be able to hit random and hear songs that were all perfect for that time...

After I moved to Cali...around the time I lost my job and girlfriend, was completely fucked with a financial situation back home (once again) with tenants that weren't paying and a mortgage that was killing me quickly, I LOST ALL MY PLAYLISTS.

I did a clean install and despite having dragged my entire HD onto my external HD and then dragging it back after the clean install, somehow, my playlists didn't make it.

So, for the first time, I had to REORGANIZE my at the time 28,000 songs. Just so you understand what that entails....I go thru EVERY SONG one by one and put it in any number of playlists that it fits into. At the time I had around 55 playlists. With no choice but to get on the grind, I knocked it ALL out. I had ALL my songs perfectly organized.

That's part 1. Stay tuned as 150 hours of hard work gets wiped out like New Orleans.

I need to stop writing at 2am....

here's what i do....hustle as long as i can with occasional smoothies and israeli salads in between until i'm exhausted and need to skate or surf or some shit to flip the script (on a good day) ....come home, tim or i make dinner, grub, get comfortable and watch a movie. end of the night after who knows what happened in between (on a good night)..i get back to my bed and think i've come up with good ideas.....

...

Cause ------------> Just Be True ------------> Stay connected--------------------make it happen --------------> the hustle ----------> the grind ------------------------------------------> the big payback ---------------------------> pour some back out....water the flower -------------------------------------------

...somehow makes perfect sense to me right now. .....it's suppose to somehow act as universoul's skeleton.. i need to relaunch it soon.

Curry Butternut Squash Soup

Dasi Feingold, one of the worlds nicest people and a very close family friend, taught me a while back how to make butternut squash soup. Since then, in my never ending quest to put my own twist on things and personalize them, I tweaked the recipe a little and added curry among a couple other things.

So here it is:

1) Skin the butternut squash and take out the guts (seeds)
2) Cut it up into 1in cubes or so
3) Bring chicken broth to boil
4) Add a bunch of curry, salt, seasoned salt, seasoned pepper, chili powder, garlic, and paprika
5) Add butternut squash cubes (make sure that the broth BARELY covers the squash. better to have to add broth or water than have too much.
6) Leave it in there for at least 25 min. (I don't think you can leave it for TOO long. I tend to forget about it and then when I remember, it's time!)
7) Use like a potato masher or something to mash up all the squash and BAM...JEWELZ...you got a BOMB Curry Butternut Squash Soup!!!

Enjoy...it's delicious!

Giving thanks...

I guess that's what this day is for right? Well....lets see....I'm thankful for my health, family, friends, and the freedom to make decisions that affect my life. Life is far from easy and I've never been the luckiest guy, but I'm super thankful that I have the ability every day to choose what I want to do and take responsibility for those choices. Far from everyone has that freedom and it's a shame that those who do abuse it or don't use it at all. It's easy to take all these things for granted when you were born into a life of opportunities. I'm not talking about being rich and spoiled although many people are. I'm just saying...if you have your health, some people in your life that love and support you, and you don't live in some kind of political mess that controls your life, then most of your life is the result of decisions you've made and make daily. I tell a lot of my friends that have made poor decisions in the past and feel the weight of unresolved issues or consequences of their actions, "every moment you have the opportunity to make the right decisions from here on out." The past is the past and it all has to be dealt with and you do have the freedom to work through it, but it's the freedom to change from this point on that should be taken advantage of.

Anyways...I think the best way to give thanks in retrospect is to live life to the fullest, take advantage of the things life gives you, and give back....always give back.

Alicia Keys or Wendy Rene???

So, I just heard the new Alicia Keys for the first time and is aiiight, definitely nothing too special. We'll get back the album review in a second.

The song that stood out to me right away was "where do we go from here." I heard that old Memphis Stax-Volt sound right away, especially in the organ. I was like damn..did Willie Mitchell produce this? Then we listened to it a second time and I realized it was not just a general sound it reminded me of, but a specific song...."AFTER LAUGHTER COMES TEARS" an old Wendy Rene song, which was also sampled by RZA for "TEARZ" on 36 Chambers. Sure enough it was an old Stax-Volt release and even after a little research, I can't put my finger on the producer. It sounds like Willie Mitchell. Unfortunately, that's not a track I have on 45, so maybe someone can help me??

That's really all I wanted to say. There's not too much to say about that whole Alicia Keys album. I think she sings from the heart, but doesn't have that REAL soul sound. Amy Winehouse is the only recent singer I'd put up there with some of those old classic soul singers.

Broken glass theory

Without going back into "The Tipping Point", one of my favorite books to reference, some time in the early/mid 90's Mayor Rudy Giuliani cleaned up the streets with the "Broken Glass Theory" in mind. The theory is that in a clean and well-maintianed environment, people would be less likely to commit crime.

An example I have always used is when coming to a person's home... If the home is a mess, visitors are less likely to respect the place, clean up after themselves, etc. On the other hand, when entering a super clean, well-maintained home, visitors are much more likely to be considerate. They will take their shoes off sometimes without being asked, they might take their dishes to the sink and trash to the garbage, etc.

Well, in general, in life it is important to surround yourself with positive influences, including a clean and organized living space.

Last night, my roommate Tim, decided to finish painting the walls in our apartment. That lead to organizing and cleaning the house. The energy level instantly rose and so did the positive vibes. All of a sudden, I started looking for ways to contribute, so I took care of the dishes, made us a fatty dinner, later found some dope old lights that I never hung up, etc. I was even inspired to take care of some bills and parking tickets...shit I NEVER take care of. I organized my desk and work area a bit, etc.

Tim's still on the mission today. As I type, he's painting the trimming and handles on the cabinets in the hallway. It's a beautiful thing. Being surrounded by this kind of productivity has always been SUPER influential on me. I've always needed to be surrounded by productive people who lead by example...that's how I do it, but I need the inspiration in return.

Reversely, being surrounded by destructiveness and wastefulness is POISON!! Unfortunately, that's been the case more times than not around here. Hopefully things change. If not, I have to make decisions for my personal well being. Hope you're doing the same.

Holla!!!

Motor City named nation's most dangerous...

Motor City named nation's most dangerous
By DAVID N. GOODMAN, Associated Press Writer Mon Nov 19, 6:21 AM ET

DETROIT - In another blow to the Motor City's tarnished image, Detroit pushed past St. Louis to become the nation's most dangerous city, according to a private research group's controversial analysis, released Sunday, of annual FBI crime statistics.

The study drew harsh criticism even before it came out. The American Society of Criminology launched a pre-emptive strike Friday, issuing a statement attacking it as "an irresponsible misuse" of crime data.
The 14th annual "City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America" was published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc. It is based on the FBI's Sept. 24 crime statistics report.

The report looked at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. Each crime category was considered separately and weighted based on its seriousness, CQ Press said.

Last year's crime leader, St. Louis, fell to No. 2. Another Michigan city, Flint, ranked third, followed by Oakland Calif.; Camden, N.J.; Birmingham, Ala.; North Charleston, S.C.; Memphis, Tenn.; Richmond, Calif.; and Cleveland.

The study ranked Mission Viejo, Calif., as the safest U.S. city, followed by Clarkstown, N.Y.; Brick Township, N.J.; Amherst, N.Y.; and Sugar Land, Texas.

CQ Press spokesman Ben Krasney said details of the weighting system were proprietary. It was compiled by Kathleen O'Leary Morgan and Scott Morgan, whose Morgan Quitno Press published it until its acquisition by CQ Press.

The study assigns a crime score to each city, with zero representing the national average. Detroit got a score of 407, while St. Louis followed at 406. The score for Mission Viejo, in affluent Orange County, was minus 82.

Detroit was pegged the nation's murder capital in the 1980s and has lost nearly 1 million people since 1950, according to the Census Bureau. Downtown sports stadiums and corporate headquarters — along with the redevelopment of the riverfront of this city of 919,000 — have slowed but not reversed the decline. Officials have said crime reports don't help.

Detroit police officials released a statement Sunday night disputing the report, saying it fails to put crime information into proper context.

"Every year this organization sends out a press release with big, bold lettering that labels a certain city as Most Dangerous, USA," Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings said in the release.

"It really makes you wonder if the organization is truly concerned with evaluating crime or increasing their profit," said Bully-Cummings, who noted the complete report is available only by purchase. "With crime experts across the country routinely denouncing the findings, I believe the answer is clear."

The mayor of 30th-ranked Rochester, N.Y. — an ex-police chief himself — said the study's authors should consider the harm that the report causes.

"What I take exception to is the use of these statistics and the damage they inflict on a number of these cities," said Mayor Robert Duffy, chairman of the Criminal and Social Justice Committee for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The rankings "do groundless harm to many communities," said Michael Tonry, president of the American Society of Criminology.

"They also work against a key goal of our society, which is a better understanding of crime-related issues by both scientists and the public," Tonry said.

Critics also complain that numbers don't tell the whole story because of differences among cities.

"You're not comparing apples and oranges; you're comparing watermelons and grapes," said Rob Casey, who heads the FBI section that puts out the Uniform Crime Report that provides the data for the Quitno report.

The FBI posted a statement on its Web site criticizing such use of its statistics.

"These rough rankings provide no insight into the numerous variables that mold crime in a particular town, city, county, state, or region," the FBI said. "Consequently, they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents."

Doug Goldenberg-Hart, acquisitions editor at CQ Press, said that the rankings are imperfect, but that the numbers are straightforward. Cities at the top of the list would not be there unless they ranked poorly in all six crime categories, he said.

"The idea that people oppose it, it's kind of blaming the messenger," Goldenberg-Hart said. "It's not coming to terms with the idea that crime is a persistent problem in our society."

The report "helps concerned Americans learn how their communities fare in the fight against crime," CQ Press said in a statement. "The first step in making our cities and states safer is to understand the true magnitude of their crime problems. This will only be achieved through straightforward data that all of us can use and understand."

The study excluded Chicago, Minneapolis, and other Illinois and Minnesota cities because of incomplete data.

I need an intern...

I've been saying this shit for 4+ years now.

Ideally.......shiiiiit.......Ideally, I'd have two. 1) A really really well organized person who is detailed oriented and doesn't take short cuts, and 2) An ambitious, hungry, motivated person who is driven by their desire to succeed, be happy, and have fun.

1...
- would keep track of things I need to do and even do some of them like paying parking tickets and bills (with my money of course)
- organize my contacts and have everyone's info from name, number, email, bday, address, etc., then organize them into functional groups
- help me with anything computer related. people like pete and bill hold me down, but i would love to have someone always there

2...
- would be more of an apprentice.
- hustle emails, phone calls
- management of marketing and biz dev efforts
- roll with me occasionally to parties/events
- have desire to most likely start his/her own business or at least run someone's
- be very passionate and have a thirst for knowledge of his passions (which would have to relate to mine to be relavent....music, skating, snowboarding, community, fashion, trends, business, etc.)

I am making a decision to pursue getting an intern for the winter semester. Fuck it...that's what I needs to do, so I gotsta do it.

Where to meet a good woman/man

Although I think there are answers to that, I think the more important question, is when?

You tend to meet a good "partner" in life when you're really "doin' you." Not just partners, but especially good people that you get charged from. When you're focused on doing what you like, what's good for you, what makes you happy, etc., you tend to meet like-minded people...that's just the way it is. On top of that, you're more likely to be in an emotional, mental, and spiritual state to connecting with those type of people.

Doing what you love, makes you happy, etc. is stupidly hard though. Every day and within the moments that make up those days, you are faced with decisions and opportunities that together determine your life. Why I don't get into a good stretching/yoga session every day is beyond me. It's a simple 30 minute use of my time that will guarantee that I feel that much better throughout the day. The same goes for everything from the food we eat, the people we surround ourselves with, to the stupid little "to do's" that we do or do not do. But, when you're right in that zone, there's nothing more rewarding and natural.....but it's a fine line and one that is easily strayed from.

Music pt. 1 - "A new world" Al Green

We're entering a new world that I believe is going to revive GOOD MUSIC. Once again, thanks to my man James Andrews who suggested I read "The Long Tail," I have continued to redefine and refine my thoughts about the music industry and where it is heading.

In my humble opinion, the future looks BETTER THAN EVER!!!

What has happened in the last few decades, since radio, tv, and other forms of mass media, is we have become a generation of Hits/Blockbusters. We have been living in a "physical" world, meaning we buy our stuff at retail stores, listen to the radio, watch tv, etc. In a retail store, there is limited space to carry products, so what products are you gonna carry? ...What sells the most right? Why would you carry anything else. So, what you end up with, is a store with the top 100 or 1000 albums (in the case of music). Similarly, radio and tv have limited time to play songs. Again, what are they gonna play? ...What most people want to hear...the lowest common denominator. It's a vicious cycle because the masses are fed the same garbage and that's what the stores end up selling, so for music enthusiasts like myself and most of you, it's tough to find and hear GOOD MUSIC.

So, what's changed???

We now live in a "digital" world where there is unlimited space. Online stores like itunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Amazon, etc. have over 2 million songs available to listen to and purchase and that number is growing every day. Furthermore, you have websites like Lastfm.com and Pandora.com that do a great job of helping you discover new music. Slowly, people are spending more and more time on their computers and less on tv, radio, magazines, newspapers, etc. because they are finding more interesting and self stimulating material there. Even the "masses"...the "sheep" are finding music and stuff that they like that is not in the "main stream."

We're becoming a world of "niches" instead of hits and blockbusters. Those hits and blockbusters will always exist, but they will not dominate as much as they have. Instead, we will continue to come through massive amounts of information, picking out what we're feelin' and what represents OUR STYLE.

In regards to music, this means that within each "niche," only the best music will be successful and "best" will be defined by us the consumers, not the corporations!!! Yeaaaeeee yeeaaaeeee. Time to get gansta on these punk mutha-fuckas that have been feeding us garbage for so many years!!!!

Major labels are shitting themselves right now trying to hold onto what they've had, which was nothing short of dominance and control over the masses.

The people are taking over and GOOD MUSIC will survive!! Word-of-mouth will be of the FEW forms of trusted sources. Through word-of-mouth, hand-to-hand, and the digital spaces that translate them for us, we will continue to discover a WHOLE NEW WORLD out there of super old to brand new, obscure to common, foreign to domestic, and independent to major label music that we LIKE!!

SO HAVE NO FEAR...GOOD MUSIC IS HERE TO STAY, THRIVE, AND PROSPER!!!!!!

Berkdeep's Birthday Today!!!

I almost started writing this one at 4am after a night of open bars and many o' smoke sesses starting at the Osiris video premier, to Nike Charles Barkley 25th Air Force Anniversary, to Quy's homey's house, and back home.......but it's a good thing I didn't...I might have randomly ran on about nothing.

Let's bring it back to Berke, by far one of my favorite people on this earth!! The guy my parents love and the people of Windsor are still looking for. The guy that takes meticulous 20 minute showers almost every day and then goes two weeks without one...uggghhhhhhh! He'll kick over garbage cans by night and cook you breakfast by morning. He might have been the first person I knew to play 36 chambers, he can tell you what skater skated to what song in any video ever made, he's got a mean motor boat, rolls a meaner blunt, he can't drive in the snow, and he drives real slow. The man on the grill and behind the grill, The Assaultin of Altan, The Iron Sheik, Berke the Turk, BERKDEEP..................drum roll please.................Berke Altan.

I would love nothing more than for everyone to share a Berke story below. Let me start us off...this is gonna be an Omer story, you better get comfortable....

So, quite a few years ago (me and time don't get along so well) a bunch of us decided to go to Windsor for some drinks and good times. It was Berke, Bill, Bill's girl "whats her name?", Lance, Jamie, Myself, and probably someone I forgot. It wasn't later than midnight when Berke had already tossed a pitcher into the middle of the dance floor...or should I say, when BERKDEEP tossed a pitcher into the middle of the dance floor. Somehow we weren't kicked out, which gave us all time to consume some more. Bill took off with "what's her name?" on a walk that started around 1am and was still going when we got kicked out of the bar around 2. We hadn't been standing outside longer than a couple minutes before Berke starts trying to tip anything and everything in his way. The best part was that he didn't want to give up on trying to tip this newspaper dispenser that was BOLTED to the ground. I told Lance and them to go ahead and go home, not having a clue what was in store...

Berke and I don't make it much farther than literally right across the street when I sense the need to turn around and Berke's got a folding chair cocked all the way back, about to put it through this cars windshield. Luckily I was quick enough to grab it out of his hands before he did. Thinking we were good to go now, I shake my head and start walking. Next thing I know, I turn around to find Berke fully cocked back with a big ass bottle (like a forty or wine bottle) and it's too late.......

He throws the bottle right into the windshield destroying it. Mind you, we haven't made it passed the bar. We are literally directly across the street. Luckily there was no one around so I grab Berke and start speed walking to put some distance between us and the crime scene. Non of this stopped Berke from kicking and tipping over EVERYTHING in his site...EVERYTHING. We eventually find Bill somewhere and despite hearing what had happened and it being well after 2am, he's tunnel visioned on spending more time with this girl...whatever. We end up going to another bar for a bit, which proved to be a great idea since Berke obviously needed to have another drink and spend some more time in public. Not only that, Bill decides the night is still not over and that he wants to go to the casino now too.

On the way Berke doesn't slow down his mission to leave no upright standing objects on the streets of Windsor. Bill and "what's her name?" dissapear soon as we get to the Casino and I, being broke and annoyed, end up aimlessly watching some old Canadians play poker at 3-somethin' in the morning. Berke told me he was gonna find Bill and "WHN?" so I just chilled. A good 15 minutes later I decide to find everyone and can't find ANYONE. I weaved in and out of every aisle before finally finding Bill and WHN? I told Bill about Berke missing, but he wasn't interested or concerned. I did another 15 minute search before coming back to Bill and asking him to help. After we all searched for a bit longer, I finally asked a security guard if he'd seen Berke and he told me he kicked him out TWICE (Once with his sweatshirt and once without. Good disguise Berke!).

So, we start our search for Berk-chin, which luckily wasn't too hard. We just had to follow the trail of tipped over things in the streets. We finally find Berke stumbling around and get him home.

HERE IS THE BEST PART OF THE STORY.....

The next day, I'm talking to Berke and just for kicks I ask him what the worse thing he did was... After thinking about it for a while, he hesitantly, but sincerely says, "Oh yeah, I threw a pitcher in that bar didn't I?" HA!!! That's when I got to tell HIM the story.

For one of the nicest, gentlest guys I may ever know, Berke can be a MONSTER!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROTHA!! LOVE YA!!

Websites worth noting...

Let's share a list of dope websites here, what they are used for, and whatever you wanna say about 'em. I'll add more to it later, but this should get the list started. I might add yours to this list so we have a master list....or not...we'll see.

Business:

www.linkedin.com - A professional networking site. I LOVE this site! It has proven to be a super valuable tool in 1) Connecting with people in my professional network 2) Finding like-minded professionals that I would have otherwise not found 3) Sharing and building on ideas 4) Finding work and probably some other stuff I'm not thinking of. (I think this one was Peter Baker. Thanks dude.)

www.plaxo.com - A great way to keep your contacts updated info. It automatically syncs with your "address book" or whatever in real time.

docs.google.com - A way to share word & excel type files with people online where the changes happen in real time and more than one person can be on there editing at the same time.

www.iwantsandy.com - Your personal secretary. "She" will keep things organized for you and remind you of things you need to do. I haven't used this yet to the fullest, but thanks to my man James Andrews who put me up on this, I am having an easier time remembering to do things. I do think this program could be much better if it synced both ways with ical and other similar programs.

www.malakye.com - It's the "Career Builder" for Action Sports Jobs.

Lifestyle:

www.going.com - My go to site to see what's going on in the city. They only cover major cities so far, so this may not be useful to some of you, but if you're in the LA area, find me on there and check in, because I'm usually adding dope events to "my events" and many of them have RSVPs to get you in FREE.

www.fusicology.com & www.flavorpill.com - Both solid sites to see what's happening in your town. They reach a few more cities than "going." (Claribelle...thanks girl)

Music:

www.thismachineco.com/daily/wp/ - A dope site featuring rare funk/soul/jazz 45's. I will be regularly uploading songs to this as well. My boy Deric Mahany JUST laced me with this AS WE SPEAK. Good looks Gromm!!

www.the-breaks.com - I've held onto this little secret for MANY years. This site gives you the names to original samples.

www.albumbase.com - Free downloads of full-length albums! No catches. I've been using this for a couple years now and being someone who likes having full-length albums and not just singles, this site kills it. (big up FINALE who I think put me up on this)

www.extorrent.org - Sharing mass amounts of digital information. (thanks to Peter Baker)

www.pandora.com & www.lastfm.com - Great ways to discover new music. (Miguel put me up on Pandora a LONG time ago)

www.qtrax.com, www.amiestreet.com, www.emusic.com, www.rhapsody.com - Innovative sites for both discovering and buying digital music.

www.soulmusic.com - I just had the pleasure of chillin' with David Nathan, founder of www.soulmusic.com. We talked music and passion while he played me one deep soul track after another from his ridiculously rich library.

Fun:

www.realultimatepower.net - This site is all about ninjas, REAL NINJAS. This site is awesome. These guys are cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet. (special thanks to Frumin for sharing this with me a few years ago)

www.vodpod.com - Let's you store all your favorite videos from YouTube and the likes as well as share that library with others. I spent one long night in Vienna at Bill and Ingrid's place and added a ton of dope music videos. You can look my up on there and check 'em out. I don't think I've use it since.

Dilla: Cure Lupus Walkathon this November 17th in Santa Monica, CA

Los Angeles Walks with Us - 2007!

"Jay Walkers"/J Dilla Project

We are excited to participate as a team in the 2007 Los Angeles Walk With Us to Cure Lupus Walkathon this November 17th in Santa Monica, CA.

Join the J Dilla Project Team and become a "Jay Walker". Help be part of the solution to find a cure for Lupus and to bring social awareness on behalf of Mr. James Yancey aka J Dilla.

We can seriously make a difference by supporting a great cause and at the same time honor a man who lived life passionately till the very end doing what he loved the most.

It is only right to GIVE RESPECT WHERE RESPECT IS DUE especially when that person inspired and touched our lives in our own personal way.

Come out and be part of this Love Walk.

Peace

Hip Hop Leaders (HHL): Helping at-risk youth eduction program!!

I am proud and honored to be a part of this program. I wanted to share this with everyone for 3 main reasons. 1) I just wanted you to know what I'm on the grind for and passionate about right now, 2) There is a good chance you can help, and 3) I'm happy to hear your thoughts, etc.

The Hip-Hop Leaders (HHL) Program is a year-round after-school college prep, technology prep, and mentoring program. The program uses the excitement and relevance of the hip hop culture to connect with at-risk youth, then motivate and enable them to pursue higher education and technology careers.

I'm gonna add to this when I feel more like typing, but check out the website and the video link below.

Holla at ya boy if you're interested in getting involved and/or know someone who would.

Best surf day of my life so far...

Figured I'd start with today. I'm not always gonna share my days, but today was a good one.

After waking up extra early to tune into one of my new favorite people, James Andrew's, new online show (he's running a beta version to work out kinks and I'm honored to have been one of few chosen to be a part of it), I drove down to Frumin's cave in Dana Point for a surf. The night before, Mike (Frumin) told me that him and our boy Seth were gonna head out between 9:30-10am. For those of you who know Mike, what I'm about to tell you shouldn't come as a surprise at all...

I get to his house at quarter to ten and he's fast asleep. My favorite part tho, is that the first words that came out of his mouth as he actually popped up, where "you hungry!?!" Gotta love that dude. Anyways, I realized I better go get my laptop and knock out some work because nothing in Frumin's world happens quickly unless you're specifically trying to chill and move slow. I will say that since Mike got unjustifiably restructured out of his job, he's been hookin' up some marvelous breakfasts, including scrabbled eggs w/potatoes, bacon, muffins (one with cream cheese, avocado, & bacon and another with cream cheese and jam), and some oj.

We finally rolled out an hour+ later. Mike managed to waste another half hour or so on the way there stopping pointlessly at breaks we new we weren't gonna surf.

Once we got to Upper's/Cotton's (Trestles Beach) the surf wasn't as big as thought it would be, but it was looking fun. I caught a few good ones, nothing spectacular, but solid rides that rivaled my better ones. We found Danimal, another one of my favorite people and a whole other story...haha...man I love that guy.

Best wave of my life so far...

This thing was a foot or two over head, lined up in front of me, and stayed open...which is a foreign concept to me all together. I got a couple nice pumps from top to bottom of the face, did a small cut back, pulled back up to the top to click a SMALL spray of the top and managed to even pop out of it before it closed out on me.

That's it...at least that's all that's really worth telling. I treated Mike to some Thai food, where a fine ass 45 year old woman and I flirted for a minute, head back to Mike's, chilled and I headed back home.

I done did it...I started a blog

So here it is...This will be my space to write WHATEVER I WANT in the language I feel like using. This is not a "professional" blog, but a "personal" one. If foul language, brutal honesty, slang, and strong opinions are things that offend you, this respectfully isn't for you.

Without thinking about it too much, this will be a space for me to share my THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, and OPINIONS. I will share MUSIC, INSIGHTS, PEOPLE, IDEAS, WEBSITES, MOVIES, EXPERIENCES, etc...

I encourage replies and discussions.

Hopefully this will be a place to unite, share, learn, discuss, develop, discover, talk shit, and more.

Welcome to our own new little world....ENJOY!!
